Open the Book
A team from Jubilee visit Burchett's Green Infants School on a Tuesday morning to lead the Open the Book assembly for the children there. The Open the Book project is run nationally and is essentially a dramatized story time based on Bible stories from the Lions Storyteller Bible.
Each story has a special message designed to help the children know God better and there is a time of worship and prayer at the end when they can respond to God.
The sessions are great fun and the children always look forward to the assemblies. It’s a great way of introducing children to the Bible at a young age and putting those seeds of faith into their hearts.
A typical session starts with an introduction to the story and opportunity for some of the children to take part and dress up, the dramatized story itself (teachers join in too!), a reflection on the story, a front led-prayer, a worship song and finally the children pray.
It is very simple and effective and doesn’t involve a huge amount of time in preparation. It is great to see the children getting excited about the stories from the Bible, and they love the singing and prayers too.
If you are interested in starting up an Open the Book project in your local school, please contact me and I will be happy to talk further with you about how it works. If you would like to join us and help make Open the Book happen on a Tuesday morning, then please get in touch - we would love to have you join the team.
